INTERVIEW: AMBITIOUS DENGLER IN NEW YORK!

Ambitious and determined DENGLER!

1. First of all, hello! And I want to know some information about you!

My name is Lisa Dengler, lived in Zurich, Switzerland, currently finishing up my bachelor’s degree in architecture in Canada. I was born in Germany, however grew up in Toronto in Canada, which is probably one of the best places in the world to grow up, because it teaches you to be friendly, open-minded, and not judge anyone. However, I was always in love with Europe. How close everything is together, how culturally different and rich each country was, how life was much more spontaneous and fun. So I always spent as much time travelling to Europe. When I had work semesters in university I would choose different cities in Europe to move to. So far I've lived (for 4 months or longer) in Den Haag, Stuttgart, Rome, Vienna, and Zurich.

2. I think that you are a stylish person. What do you think about your own style?

My style is constantly changing and evolving by what currently inspires me. It's always hard to describe your own style, but I guess you could say it's a mix of comfortable, edgy, and trendy, which sounds awful actually! To elaborate, I like oversized things, and high heels, and mixing put together with not put together, and then adding a hat of sorts.

3. Do you like Zurich? Are people in this city stylish?

In Zurich there are stylish people, but you don't see them that often, or at least I don't. People here have a lot of money, so it's more important for them to look rich than to look trendy. It's the alternative crowd that has a nice style, but they're harder to find. It's not quite as inspiring as travelling to Stockholm or Paris and people-watching there. Those are two cities where almost every woman looks amazingly styled.

4. Banal, but who or what inspires you?

There's many people that inspire me, from bloggers to photographers, to magazine editors, etc. I think the top of my list right now is Elin Kling, because I'm kind of doing very similar things to what she does. And she's very successful with what she's done, and I aspire to become as successful, if not more, than she is. In terms of things that inspire me, magazines such as Jalouse, Dazed&Confused, Self Service, etc. as well as movies, art work, photographs, people free-falling from 40km in the air, etc. There's so many inspirational things in life, it's hard to just name a few.

5. Do you follow fashion-weeks?

Last year (2012) was my first time really going to fashion weeks. I was in Copenhagen, Stockholm, London, and Paris, and it's a lot more stressful than I could have ever imagined. I went to over 150 different shows, many you might know (Ashish, Elie Saab, By Malene Birger), and many you probably don't know (Freya Dalsjö, Anne Sofie Madsen, KTZ). There was just so much inspiration packed into back-to-back shows, beautiful people everywhere, all of which is great, but a little overwhelming.

6. Do you have favorite designers or Fashion Houses?

After seeing their spring/summer (2012) collections, I'd have to say Simone Rocha, Burberry, Topshop Unique, Stella McCartney, Balmain, Costume National, Valentino, Maison Martin Margiela, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, and Rag & Bone.

7. If you get a chance to create your own fashion collection, what would it look like?

This is an amazing question! I have always wanted to design my own collection. In this moment of my life, it would probably be minimalistic, playing with shapes, textures, and volume, with attention to the little details that you don't notice until you see up-close. Oversized shapes, mixed with tight, short pieces to emphasize the legs, playing a lot with transparencies, and luxe leather, which are my two favourite trends right now. And a beautiful colour palette of blue denim, burgundy, mustard yellows, whites and blacks.

8. Compose your playlist of your favorite songs.

1.    Imagine Dragons - It's Time
2.    The XX - Angels
3.    Foals - Spanish Sahara
4.    Benjamin Francis Leftwich - Box of Stones
5.    Daughter - Youth

9. Do you have your own life or fashion rules?

I try to tell myself everyday to be exactly who I am, no matter what people think of me.

10. Name 10 strange, funny and interesting things about yourself!

1.    I have a shopping addiction.
2.     My clothes spend more time on the floor than in the closet.
3.    I love all kinds of bitter drinks - Aperol Spritz, Bitter Lemon, Gin and Tonic, etc.
4.    When I find a food I like I'll keep eating it everyday until I get sick of it.
5.    I always listen to music when I'm working.
6.    Watching cute animal videos makes my day so much better.
7.    I'm obsessed with the shows Homeland and Pretty Little Liars (odd mix, I know)
8.    I like listening to inspirational speeches.
9.    I live off of my to-do-lists, which are written in a little notebook very neatly.
10. I secretly dream of become rich and famous.

11.  In the year 2018 you will be...what will be in the future? Do you want to be a fashion editor?

In 2018? Well I plan to become a successful entrepreneur, living in London, doing a mix between fashion photography, artwork, graphic design, fashion design, styling…the list goes on! I can tell you some of the things I want to achieve, and maybe by then I'll have achieved them. I want to create my own collection(s), open up my own boutique store carrying brands and items that I personally choose, I want to style photoshoots, but at the same time photograph them, I want to be front row at all shows during fashion weeks, and I basically want people in the fashion industry to know who I am. If you couldn't already tell, I dream a lot...

12. Your magazine name is "Just Another Fashion Magazine"! Simple and interesting! Why did you name your magazine like this?

Well it started with the blog name, which was Just Another Fashion Blog (now – JUST-ANOTHER.ME – editor) and I thought it was a very entertaining idea to have this whole brand centered around "Just Another". It's kind of an ironic play on the fact that it is just another whatever, but at the same time, it's better.

13. What do you think about the project?

I think it's a great idea to create a site with interviews of bloggers, photographers, and illustrators, but it's all going to be about how to make it unique and better than all the sites that are already out there.
